Three Things Water Baths Accomplish In Any Sort Of Business

Posted on

Water baths are generally used in laboratories, but they can also be used in a number of other businesses. Their purposes and uses are vast as well. If you think you could benefit from purchasing and installing a water bath station in your business, here are some ideas on how you might use them and three things these baths accomplish in any business.

Dilution

Water dilutes. This key fact makes all the difference between an acidic compound or liquid that can burn flesh and a diluted compound or liquid that may only be mildly irritating if you get the diluted substance on your hands. The bath can help dilute these liquids and compounds so that they may be used safely for cleaning, chemical removal of rust or other undesirable solid blemishes, and the safer (albeit slower) removal of paint from painting instruments.

Cleansing and Sanitation

Water at the most basic level cleanses. You can add cleaning agents to the water bath to turn it into either a cleaning bath for tools or you can add a sanitizer, such as bleach, rubbing alcohol, vinegar, or hydrogen peroxide to the bath to sanitize tools/instruments. Just be sure to check the instructions on your bath so that you do not add anything to it that can damage the integrity of the bath over time (i.e., do not add anything that is too corrosive and may cause structural damage in the long run).

Slowly Heating Things Up

Water baths are able to slowly heat things up and heat uniformly so that you do not have hot spots in the substances you are trying to heat. As an example, say that you are trying to heat up a bottle of milk in order to extract that which will ferment so that you can conduct an experiment without the possibility of the extracted material rotting too quickly. You would place the bottle of milk in the bath, set the heating dial to the desired temperature, and wait. After a few minutes to an hour (depending on how slowly you want the milk to heat), the bottle's contents would be ready to use for the experiment. You can choose to keep the bottle in the warm bath and turn the temperature down a nip, or remove the bottle and let it sit on the counter for however long it is allowed for what you expect to do next.
