Posted on

If you are thinking of getting a job as a waiter for catered events, then you will want to have a good idea of the different things that are in a waiter's job description so you can prepare yourself for the task. Here is more information on what waiters do before and during an event and what is expected of them.

Servicing a variety of events

If you so get a job as an event waiter, then you should know that you might be asked to work any number of events. From business events, weddings, and birthday parties to retirement parties and funerals, you would be expected to work at an event of any type. You may end up working at a somewhat small event or an absolutely huge event, and you would have to show you are comfortable and capable, no matter how many people are in attendance.

Help prepare for the event

One of the job duties of the cater waiter will be helping out with the set up for the event. This includes setting up the tables, setting the tables, setting up the chairs, and helping the other catering staff with things that they need to have done before the guests start to arrive.

Greet the guests as they arrive

When the guests begin to arrive, you will also be the one that is responsible to show them to their tables and help get them situated comfortably. You will then make sure they all have glasses of water in front of them. Throughout the entire event, you are going to want to make sure you continue to fill up water glasses as you notice that they need to be filled. You will also take their drink orders and bring them the drinks of their choosing.

Take the guests orders

Just as with a regular waiter's duties, you will also take everyone's orders and relay their orders to have their plates prepared. When the plates are ready, you will serve them to the guests and make sure that they are comfortable and have everything they need. If they request something else, then you will need to go and retrieve those items for them as well.

Clear the tables

As the guests are done with their plates, you will clear the plates from the tables. Even after the tables have been cleared, you are still going to want to continue offering to fill the guests' glasses with more water as long as they remain seated at the tables. Once the dining area has been cleared of guests, you are going to help to tear down the tables and pack everything up.

If these job duties appeal to you, there are plenty of waiter agencies looking for staff. Look around online to find out who is hiring in your area.
